The hand forged structural steel head is anchored in place with a thick copper rivet atop a scalloped hickory handle. All the edges are smooth to prevent any unwanted nicks in the tread or side wall of a tire. This tool is also known as; club, or a cudgel, bludgeon, mace, billy club, or nightstick.
American Truckers call this a Tire Thumper, and use it to check air pressure in commercial vehicle tires. Tire Thumpers are considered by the U.S. Department of Transportation to be an automotive maintenance tool, not a weapon. Due to restrictive federal and state regulation on Commercial drivers carrying weapons, a mace or club is the weapon of necessity for a majority of law abiding truck drivers nationwide. If the best weapon you can legally carry is a tire thump, then you should carry one that says you mean business.
